Planning a wedding is often a journey of balancing tradition with personal expression, but for one Atlanta couple, the process became an exercise in meticulous storytelling. When lifelong Atlantans William and his bride set out to design their dream wedding weekend, their primary goal was simple yet ambitious: to create an experience that felt both deeply personal and immensely fun for everyone in attendance. Choosing The Reserve—a favorite weekend retreat where the couple spends countless hours throughout the year—as the backdrop, they set the stage for a seamless celebration where the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception flowed effortlessly within a single, cherished environment.
The path to the altar began in the heart of Atlanta. William proposed at the Duck Pond Park, nestled in the historic Peachtree Heights East neighborhood. Having both grown up in the city and continuing to call it home, the couple has always held a special fondness for the park’s distinct charm. Adding to the emotional resonance of the location, the park sits just beside Christ the King Cathedral, the bride’s home church. Following the proposal, the newly engaged couple gathered to celebrate at Lingering Shade, one of their favorite local cocktail bars, surrounded by family and close friends who had traveled from across the country to pull off the surprise. The evening concluded with a quintessential Atlanta nod, ending under the famous disco ball at Johnny’s Hideaway.
With the engagement celebrations behind them, the bride turned her attention to a lifelong dream of designing her own wedding. The vision started with a blank canvas: an empty sailcloth tent. Alongside her mother, the bride spent countless hours curating design boards from years of saved inspiration photos before presenting them to their planner and vendor team. These boards served as the foundational blueprint for a cohesive visual narrative that would define the entire weekend.
A central tenet of the design strategy was ensuring that every detail felt interconnected. Rather than treating different elements of the wedding as isolated choices, the couple intentionally repeated specific design motifs across invitation suites, florals, custom linens, and paper goods. Recurring patterns, including specific floral motifs, classic lattice and cane designs, and carefully selected typography, established a consistent, elegant aesthetic from the welcome events through the final dance.
The personalization extended far beyond traditional decor, weaving the couple’s individual histories and shared passions directly into the fabric of the event. A custom lily of the valley motif, which originated on the bride’s bespoke wedding gown, blossomed into a recurring symbol featured on the wedding crest, stationery, bridesmaid attire, and additional paper goods. Meanwhile, subtle bass illustrations were cleverly hidden within the paper goods as a warm nod to William’s passion for fishing, and reception tambourines featured an Ole Miss-inspired design, celebrating the university where their love story first began. The couple credited Amelia of Tiny Shindigs, the creative team at BW Designs, and their various rental partners with transforming these conceptual details into a tangible, timeless reality.
The fashion choices for the weekend proved equally thoughtful. Long fascinated by fashion and notoriously indecisive, the bride approached her dress search with both excitement and high standards. During her third bridal appointment, she visited BW Designs, where Britt, the lead designer, suggested crafting a completely custom gown. Starting with one of the studio’s existing silhouettes, they completely redesigned the neckline—introducing a style the designer had never attempted before—and developed a unique, custom interpretation of lily of the valley and dogwood appliqués.
The creation process was intensely collaborative and detail-oriented. Working closely with stylist Lesley Brickman of The One Gown, who participated in many of the sessions via FaceTime, the team spent hours debating the precise placement of every hand-sewn appliqué to achieve absolute visual balance. The resulting one-of-a-kind gown managed to feel simultaneously timeless, fun, and comfortable, serving as a deeply personal centerpiece for the day. For the rehearsal dinner, the bride opted for an Oscar de la Renta white dress adorned with pink and green florals, chosen instantly online for its seamless complement to the couple’s invitation suite.
The bridal party complemented the aesthetic with classic, sophisticated attire. The bridesmaids wore Lula Kate dresses featuring the Hannah bodice and Brunch skirt from Bella Bridesmaids. Nine of the attendants wore gowns in a rich Fern shade, while five donned a custom Lily of the Valley print in pink. Each bridesmaid completed her look with blush and pearl earrings from Vivian Drew. Meanwhile, the groom kept his look classic and refined, wearing a tailored tuxedo from Sid Mashburn.
Culinary choices played an equally significant role in shaping the guest experience. Given the bride’s fondness for quality cocktails during the warmer months, curating the beverage menu was a highlight of the planning process. The signature drink selection drew direct inspiration from a December 2024 trip to Miami, where the couple sampled an exceptional cucumber gimlet at Cecconi’s inside Soho House South Beach. After securing the recipe, they collaborated with The Reserve’s beverage manager to adapt it for the wedding. Alongside the cucumber gimlet, the bar served a refreshing watermelon margarita and The Reserve’s signature Gin Refresher, a balanced concoction of gin, pamplemousse, lime, and grapefruit Fever-Tree soda. The drinks proved overwhelmingly popular, drawing even traditional wine drinkers to the cocktail bars throughout the evening.
The food was designed to satisfy and comfort guests at every turn. During the cocktail hour, attendees enjoyed buffalo chicken empanadas, baked brie en croûte with raspberry, mini crab cakes, and traditional pimento cheese and ham biscuits. The reception transitioned into a hearty, varied dining experience featuring three distinct stations: a carving station with tender beef tenderloin, a classic shrimp and grits station, and an interactive pasta bar complete with grilled chicken, seasonal vegetables, and a variety of sauces. As the evening wound down, a late-night surprise of sliders and mini espresso martinis kept energy levels high. Yet, as the bride noted, the true catalyst for the perpetually packed dance floor was the twelve-piece Hi-Definition party band, which kept guests celebrating until the very end.
The wedding cake served as a literal extension of the bride’s fashion. By mailing a fabric swatch of her custom gown to Couture Cakes in Greenville, the bakers were able to meticulously translate the intricate details of the dress into the cake’s sugarwork and design. Split between two distinct flavors—one half strawberry with almond buttercream, and the other classic almond cake with raspberry purée—the confection was a visual and culinary triumph. Though the bride humorously admitted to being too swept up in the festivities to sample a slice during the reception, she eagerly awaited the tradition of enjoying it on their first wedding anniversary.
From the custom stationery echoing a shared history to the thoughtfully curated menus and meaningful familial nods woven into every corner of the sailcloth tent, the celebration reflected a masterclass in intentional wedding planning. By staying true to their favorite places, personal passions, and individual aesthetic, the couple successfully crafted a weekend that felt entirely authentic to who they are, leaving an enduring impression on all who gathered to celebrate.
