When Lane and Nate set out to plan their wedding weekend, they envisioned an affair defined by an abundance of color, rich textures, and a seamless blend of elevated design and effortless playfulness. Inspired by the striking hues of an East Cape sunset, the celebrations unfolded across the pristine grounds of the Four Seasons Costa Palmas in Los Cabos, Mexico. Every corner of the resort was thoughtfully transformed to reflect the couple’s vibrant aesthetic, blending natural wood tones, pinks, sky blues, and rich greens into a series of distinct, beautifully curated events.
The multi-day celebration was meticulously coordinated by Amy Abbott Events, a member of the Little Black Book. Rather than relying on a single, uniform aesthetic throughout the weekend, the planning team gave each gathering its own unique personality and atmosphere. From lively Mexican-inspired festivities to a sophisticated French beach club party, the events were unified by subtle recurring design elements, custom paper goods, themed matchbooks, and napkins crafted by Caroline Haines Creative.
The couple’s connection to the destination ran deep long before the wedding invitations were ever sent. Nate’s proposal to Lane took place on the very same stretch of sand that would later serve as their ceremony site. During an All-Star break from hockey, Nate traveled to Cabo with both of their families. One evening before dinner, the couple took a walk along the beach with their puppy, Arnold Palmer, stopping at the exact spot where Costa Palmas now stands. Nate dropped to one knee and proposed, setting the stage for a future chapter in a location already intimately tied to their lives.
Furthermore, Lane’s father had been personally involved in the development of Costa Palmas for more than a decade. Lane had watched the property grow from its earliest conceptual phases into the world-class destination it is today. Choosing to marry where they became engaged allowed the couple to celebrate not only the beginning of their marriage, but also a landmark location deeply woven into their family’s history. Adding an extra layer of sentimental value, the couple was married on the exact same date as Lane’s parents’ wedding anniversary.
The wedding weekend officially kicked off on Thursday with a vibrant rehearsal dinner that set a festive, welcoming tone for arriving guests. The evening featured colorful tablescapes, traditional mariachi music, and a memorable appearance by a tequila donkey, capturing the lively spirit of Baja. Guests also enjoyed an elevated taco dinner before gathering for welcome cocktails, which featured margaritas, carajillos, and a dedicated churro cart. The festivities additionally incorporated a golf tournament hosted by Nate at Costa Palmas, giving friends and family an extra opportunity to connect and spend time together on the course, fueled by Dirty Arnold Palmers, coffee, breakfast burritos, and English muffins.
The itinerary continued on Friday with "Le Club Radeau" at Delphine Beach Club, a gathering inspired by classic French beach clubs. The event offered beach club favorites accompanied by an expansive spritz bar featuring Aperol, Hugo, and coconut spritzes. The afternoon was briefly interrupted by a passing summer storm, which arrived just before the party and temporarily closed the marina, delaying the schedule by an hour. Demonstrating a relaxed and adaptable approach that set the tone for the entire weekend, Lane and Nate embraced the change without hesitation. They simply updated their guests, waited for the skies to clear, and allowed the celebration to carry on seamlessly as planned.
As the weekend progressed toward the main event, the fashion choices reflected both personal history and high-end craftsmanship. Eschewing the traditional search for a new wedding gown, Lane always knew she wanted to wear her mother’s vintage Carolina Herrera dress. To honor the garment while tailoring it to her own modern style, she worked closely with the couture bridal atelier Cleo Phoenix. The original design was thoughtfully reimagined, preserving the character and history of the gown that had already witnessed a milestone in her family. In a subtle, beautiful nod to the family connection, Lane’s mother also wore Carolina Herrera during the wedding weekend.
For her bridal party, Lane selected LulaKate shantung gowns in varying silhouettes and shades of green. The layered look beautifully echoed the natural color palette of the surrounding landscape. Meanwhile, the groom wore a custom navy-on-navy double-breasted seersucker suit crafted by Top & Notch Custom in Montreal, paired with classic Gucci loafers. His groomsmen wore matching navy-on-navy seersucker suits, also by Top & Notch Custom, creating a cohesive and polished look for the wedding party.
On the wedding day, vows were exchanged on a striking white circular platform positioned directly above the Sea of Cortez. The ceremony stage was ringed with lush, vibrant pink and green floral arrangements designed by Cristina Gonzalez, while custom ceremony programs by Caroline Haines Creative provided a tailored finishing touch. Lane walked down the aisle to Olivia Dean’s "So Easy to Fall in Love," followed by "Canon in D." After exchanging personal vows they had written themselves, the couple recessed to Stevie Wonder’s upbeat classic, "Signed, Sealed, Delivered."
Following the ceremony, the celebration transitioned to the Costa Palmas Nursery for an unforgettable dinner and reception. The rustic character of the nursery was balanced with polished tablescapes featuring patterned linens, rattan lanterns swinging gently in the old trees, and warm candlelight. A custom shell stage served as the backdrop for the live band, while a hand-painted pink striped dance floor became the energetic heart of the evening. The entire scene was captured on camera by photographer Bree Wooliscroft.
The dining experience celebrated both the couple’s love of entertaining and the distinct flavors of Baja. Dinner began with a trio of bite-sized appetizers, followed by a choice of Chilean sea bass or filet mignon, alongside an eggplant parmigiana vegetarian option. The wedding cake held profound personal meaning for Lane and her mother, who spent months testing recipes together in search of the ideal flavor profile. Working alongside the Costa Palmas culinary team, they crafted a classic white almond cake with cream cheese frosting. The cake was served alongside an assortment of miniature sweets, including cake pops, Mexican wedding cookies, churros served in shot glasses, and panna cotta topped with fresh berries.
Following dinner, the couple shared their first dance to Olivia Dean’s "It Isn’t Perfect But It Might Be." The band Soirée kept the dance floor packed for hours before guests transitioned to Chiki. There, mirrored mosaics, vibrant interiors, and a lively late-night atmosphere kept the energy high, with DJ Lucy Wrubel—a college friend and former sorority sister of Lane’s mother, Tracy—closing out the festivities well into the early morning hours.
