John Torode and Lisa Faulkner Sell Muswell Hill Home for £1.8 Million Following MasterChef Departure

Celebrity chef John Torode and his wife, actress Lisa Faulkner, have successfully sold their plush north London home for £1.8 million. The property transaction comes roughly 15 months after Torode was axed as a judge on the BBC’s flagship culinary competition, MasterChef.

According to property records and details confirmed by the Daily Mail, the well-known couple knocked £105,000 off their original asking price to secure the final deal. Despite the reduction, the sale still represents a substantial financial return. Torode and Faulkner originally purchased the end-of-terrace property for £1.2 million back in 2015, meaning they are set to make a profit of almost £600,000 before accounting for renovation costs and associated fees. Land Registry documents show that the final sale has now officially gone through for £1,795,000.

The expansive five-bedroom residence in Muswell Hill has been far more than just a home for the celebrity couple; it has also served as a professional backdrop. The property was heavily featured in the filming of their hit YouTube cooking show, John And Lisa’s Kitchen And Home. The digital series has proven to be a popular venture, accumulating more than 1.3 million views and attracting 23,000 subscribers. Prospective buyers during the sales process were granted an intimate look at the couple’s culinary workspace through estate agent photographs and guided tours of the three-floor Edwardian home.

At the heart of the residence is a bespoke kitchen and diner that flows seamlessly into a south-facing garden. This space formed the focal point of an extensive renovation project undertaken by the couple. Alongside the kitchen refurbishment, the project included the installation of stunning designer bathroom suites and double-glazed timber sash windows. Throughout the modernization process, Torode and Faulkner carefully managed to preserve and maintain the building’s original Edwardian architectural features.

The five-bedroom home also boasts a quaint, well-maintained garden complete with a modern, standalone office structure positioned at the far end of the lawn. This peaceful outdoor space has recently taken on an even more significant role in the couple’s daily lives. Former Holby City star Faulkner recently revealed that she has been utilizing the tranquil surroundings of the garden to recuperate following a major medical operation, having been diagnosed with breast cancer in April of this year.

Discussing her recovery and outlook during a recent interview with The Times, Faulkner shared insight into her personal life away from the television studios. She explained that she has spent recent months cocooned in a protective bubble with her family and close friends, spending quiet afternoons in the garden with Torode, working through word searches and puzzles.

Reflecting on the challenges she has faced, Faulkner expressed a deep sense of gratitude and resilience. She noted that in every difficult situation life presents, there are invariably dark days, but that the moments of light can be quite extraordinary if one continues to search for them. She recalled telling Torode recently that her ultimate ambition is simply to cook alongside him in their kitchen for their YouTube audience and to continue acting, noting that such a life would make her profoundly happy.

The decision to put the house on the market earlier this year marks another chapter in a period of significant professional and personal transition for both Torode and Faulkner. The property move unfolds against the backdrop of Torode’s departure from MasterChef, which brought a lucrative 20-year tenure with the BBC show to an abrupt and controversial end.

Torode’s contract with the broadcaster was not renewed following an internal investigation into an allegation that he had sung along to the Kanye West track Gold Digger—which included a racist word—at a show wrap party in 2019. While Torode maintained that he had no recollection of the specific incident, the BBC upheld the complaint after reviewing the matter, resulting in the termination of his long-standing association with the program.

The fallout surrounding the long-running cooking show occurred during a turbulent period for the BBC production. Torode’s departure came just days after his fellow longtime judge, Gregg Wallace, was dismissed from the show over separate allegations of unacceptable behaviour. These claims included accusations that Wallace had groped a MasterChef production worker and pulled his trousers down in front of another colleague. Following their exits, both Torode and Wallace were permanently replaced on the panel by broadcaster and restaurant critic Grace Dent alongside Irish chef and restaurateur Anna Haugh.

Reflecting on the sudden end of his two-decade run with the broadcaster, Torode admitted in an interview in September that he had been completely stunned by the decision. He revealed that he was informed of his sacking by his agent while he was away on holiday. Describing the emotional toll of the dismissal, he told The Telegraph that it came as a massive shock, explaining that the shutters closed around him and he was left devastated and completely heartbroken. He emphasized the immense personal dedication he brought to the role, stating that he put his heart and soul into the program and worked extremely hard throughout his tenure.

Torode went on to describe the broadcaster in stark terms, likening the BBC to a machine that ultimately spat him out. He noted that during his entire multi-decade career with the organization, nobody had ever approached him to express concerns about his conduct, stating that management never once knocked on his door to warn him that his behavior or actions presented a problem. Despite the abrupt and public nature of his exit, Torode explicitly ruled out taking any potential legal action against the corporation, noting that becoming embroiled in further conflict would only cause additional damage.

While his time with MasterChef has drawn to a close, Torode continues to maintain a regular television presence. The Australian-born chef remains a familiar face on ITV’s This Morning, where he regularly hosts cooking segments for viewers across the country. However, his primary creative and professional focus has shifted heavily toward his collaborative digital projects. Alongside Faulkner, he continues to invest heavily in their YouTube channel, which the couple officially launched in December of last year.

The digital enterprise sees the pair regularly producing and releasing weekly videos featuring accessible recipes designed for everyday meals as well as special culinary occasions. While exact financial returns for the YouTube venture remain undisclosed, regulatory filings offer insight into the couple’s respective corporate entities. Torode’s television production company, Caspar 10, held £47,351 in reserves according to accounts covering the 12-month period leading up to the end of April 2025. Meanwhile, his food venture enterprise, Mr Johns Limited, was recorded as being £3,825 in the red for the year leading up to the end of May 2025.

In comparison, Faulkner’s media enterprise, Gigi Media Limited, maintained a significantly stronger financial position, holding £564,796 according to the most recently available corporate figures.

The partnership between Torode and Faulkner has evolved over more than a decade and a half in the public eye. The couple first crossed paths back in 2009 while appearing as contestants and judges on Celebrity MasterChef, at a time when they were both still married to their previous partners. Torode was previously in a relationship with his second wife, Jessica, with whom he shares two of his four children. That marriage ended in 2011 after 11 years together. His two eldest children stem from a prior relationship with his former partner, Angela.

Faulkner, meanwhile, shares a daughter named Billie, whom she adopted alongside her former husband, actor Chris Coghill, in 2006. That marriage also came to an end in 2011 following six years together, a period during which the actress had publicly navigated significant personal heartbreak, including four rounds of failed IVF treatment, multiple miscarriages, and an ectopic pregnancy. Having built a strong blended family and a successful domestic and professional partnership, the couple’s latest real estate move opens a fresh chapter as they focus their energies on new creative endeavors and personal recovery.
