Checking In: Inside Milan’s AC Hotel Milano During Fashion Week

Checking In is Coveteur’s insider review series of the best, buzziest, most fashionable hotels and properties around the world.

It was my first Milan Fashion Week, and as I boarded the plane, I was experiencing a familiar blend of excitement and nervous anticipation. Those first-day-of-school type jitters tend to creep up whenever I am taking on a brand-new fashion-adjacent adventure in an unfamiliar city. Hoping to calm my nerves and secure some rest for the journey ahead, I settled into my seat and reached for my beloved Lemme Sleep gummies, using them to successfully distract myself from the over eight-hour flight time that lay ahead. After finally landing at Milan Malpensa Airport and navigating the customary hustle and bustle of international arrivals and customs, my mind was entirely focused on one single goal: getting to my hotel for a long, refreshing shower.

Following a seamless 45-minute drive from the airport, I arrived at the doorstep of the AC Hotel Milano, the Marriott property that would serve as my temporary home away from home for the next seven action-packed days. Upon arrival, I was immediately pleased by the welcoming and efficient hospitality. The front desk staff greeted me warmly and said those glorious words every weary traveler loves to hear: "your room is ready"—even though I had arrived way ahead of the hotel’s allotted check-in time. With my oversized travel bags in tow, I was quickly ushered upstairs to settle in. Waiting for me in my room was a thoughtful welcome consisting of a refreshing iced coffee, an assortment of delicious local Italian chocolates, and a handwritten note wishing me a wonderful stay.

Ahead, get a closer look at the AC Hotel Milano following my comprehensive, week-long stay at the property.

Location: Porta Volta, which is about 15 minutes by car to the iconic Duomo. It is an easily walkable neighborhood and borders directly on the buzzy, design-forward Brera area.
Vibes: Contemporary classic.
Best For: Visitors and travelers ready to explore the city on foot or via quick transit.
Rooms: 160 rooms.

The rooms at the AC Hotel Milano were remarkably spacious, which genuinely surprised me as a New Yorker who has grown accustomed to expecting all urban hotel rooms to be notoriously tiny, much like they are in Manhattan. Stepping into the Superior King room, I was immediately greeted by beautiful herringbone wood floors and sleek, modern finishes throughout that instantly made me feel excited to explore and inhabit the space. My king-size bed proved to be cloud-like in comfort, quickly transforming into my ultimate nightly reprieve after enduring long, fashion-filled days on my feet traversing show venues across the city. Additionally, the room featured a separate sitting area complete with a little dining table, which proved to be exceptionally useful for squeezing in quick working sessions between scheduled runway shows and appointments.

Storage space is often at a premium in European hotels, but the AC Hotel Milano managed this brilliantly by providing tons of room for my oversized suitcases and an extensive wardrobe. Instead of a traditional, enclosed closet, the room featured a wide exterior rack to hang up everything I had packed for the week. I personally loved this design choice because it allowed me to actually see everything I had brought at a glance, making it significantly easier to plan and coordinate my outfits for each day of fashion week without digging blindly through dark closets.

When it came to food, beverage, and general day-to-day amenities, the property offered reliable and welcoming spaces. Whether I was grabbing a quick coffee before rushing out the door to catch morning shows or returning for a late-night dinner after a long day of work, the AC Lounge located in the main lobby area served as a dependable spot that my colleagues and I could pop over to whenever we needed a quick pick-me-up or a moment to decompress. I particularly fell in love with the specialized coffee machine featured during the complimentary breakfast service each morning. It consistently brewed delicious, authentic cappuccinos that provided the exact caffeine fuel I needed to power through the early mornings and maintain my energy levels throughout the demanding week.

Throughout the entire property, the hotel was filled with elevated, modern furnishings that struck a pleasing balance between style and comfort. Even the elevators offered unexpected design touches, featuring a full-length mirror paired with a striking zebra-like rug that made for great impromptu mirror-selfie fodder before heading out into the city. This minimal, yet thoroughly modern aesthetic made the hotel the absolute perfect place to unwind after a high-stimulus, busy day. It never felt overly fussy or overwhelming; rather, the thoughtful decor felt peaceful, serene, and remarkably grounding.

For travelers who are looking for a place they can truly depend on while exploring the historic and stylish depths of Milan, the AC Hotel Milano proves to be a remarkably strong and reliable choice. Its central location makes it exceptionally easy to get virtually anywhere in the city, whether you prefer walking through the charming surrounding neighborhoods or utilizing the local transit system. When needing to travel further afield, the front desk is more than accommodating, gladly calling you a cab that will reliably arrive at the curb in less than five minutes. Above all, it is clean, exceptionally comfortable, and possesses a sleek, contemporary feel that provides a comforting sense of familiarity to American and international guests alike.
