Retail conglomerate KnitWell Group, the parent company behind prominent apparel brands such as Ann Taylor, Loft, and Chico’s, has announced a significant addition to its executive leadership team. Angelica Munson has been appointed to the newly created role of Chief Digital and Transformation Officer, bringing with her a wealth of experience in driving global digital strategies, customer engagement, and technological innovation.
The strategic appointment is designed to bolster customer loyalty, enhance enterprise infrastructure, and drive long-term growth across KnitWell’s robust portfolio of retail brands. By drawing on Munson’s extensive background in retail technology and digital transformation, KnitWell aims to equip its subsidiary brands with the advanced tools and data insights necessary to thrive in an increasingly competitive and digitally driven retail landscape.
A Proven Leader in Beauty Tech and Digital Innovation
Before joining the KnitWell Group, Munson built an impressive reputation as a digital and transformation leader whose career has consistently sat at the crucial intersection of customer insights, cutting-edge technology, marketing, and modern commerce. Her most notable prior experience includes a tenure at Shiseido Group, where she played a pivotal role in refining the multinational cosmetics company’s global digital capabilities.

During her time with Shiseido, Munson spearheaded major technological initiatives, most notably the launch of the Beauty Tech Lab. This innovative incubator focused on integrating advanced digital tools into the consumer experience, providing AI-based skin diagnostics that transformed how customers interacted with the brand’s products both online and in physical stores. Her work in scaling digital infrastructure and leveraging data analytics made her a highly respected figure in the broader consumer goods and retail sectors.
Lizanne Kindler, executive chair and CEO of KnitWell Group, emphasized the strategic value of Munson’s hire in a press release announcing the appointment. Kindler described Munson as a visionary leader whose expertise will be instrumental as the company continues to modernize its operations.
"Angelica is a highly respected digital and transformation leader whose experience sits at the intersection of customer insight, technology, marketing, and commerce," Kindler said in the release. "Her expertise in building enterprise capabilities across data, digital, and customer engagement will help create the tools, insights, and infrastructure our brands need to continue growing and thriving."
Building a Modern Retail Conglomerate
The creation of Munson’s role comes at a time of significant organizational evolution for KnitWell Group. The holding company’s formation three years ago marked a major milestone in the retail industry, bringing together well-known apparel mainstays Ann Taylor, Loft, and Talbots under a single corporate umbrella.

This strategic consolidation partially rebuilt a powerful conglomerate of apparel brands that had previously constituted the core stable of the Ascena Retail Group. Ascena’s journey through Chapter 11 bankruptcy ultimately led to the dismantling of its extensive retail portfolio. During the bankruptcy restructuring process, prominent private equity firm Sycamore Partners stepped in to acquire several of the group’s most valuable assets, including Ann Taylor, Loft, Lane Bryant, and Lou & Grey.
Sycamore Partners continued to aggressively shape its retail holdings in subsequent years. In 2024, the private equity firm completed a $1 billion acquisition of Chico’s FAS, absorbing the company’s namesake brand alongside White House Black Market and Soma. These newly acquired Chico’s brands were seamlessly integrated into the growing KnitWell Group, expanding the holding company’s reach across multiple demographics within the women’s apparel market.
Today, KnitWell Group operates as a key component of Sycamore Partners’ extensive investment portfolio. Sycamore’s broader retail and commercial ecosystem also includes major retail players such as office supply giant Staples and body-positive fashion brand Torrid, positioning KnitWell within a vast network of retail expertise and operational resources.
Fostering Brand Comebacks and Future Growth
As KnitWell Group integrates its diverse portfolio under a unified digital strategy, its individual brands are actively pursuing ambitious modernization and marketing efforts. Among them, Ann Taylor has been staging a notable brand comeback, aiming to recapture its historic market share and reconnect with core consumers through fresh, modern marketing initiatives.

Earlier this year, Ann Taylor marked a major milestone in its revitalization strategy by debuting its first major integrated marketing campaign in nearly a decade. The campaign, which utilized innovative platforms like Substack for a fall fashion blitz, signaled a clear shift toward modern, multi-channel storytelling and direct consumer engagement.
With Angelica Munson now overseeing the holding company’s digital and transformation strategies, KnitWell Group is well-positioned to support these individual brand revitalization efforts. By implementing sophisticated data infrastructure, enhancing digital commerce capabilities, and deepening customer engagement tools across the board, Munson’s leadership is expected to play a central role in shaping the future trajectory of KnitWell and its storied portfolio of apparel brands.
