Dior’s New Cruise Campaign Blurs the Lines Between High Fashion and Contemporary Art at LACMA

PARIS — Perpetuating the enduring love affair between the worlds of high fashion and fine art, the newly unveiled Dior cruise campaign captures a starry ensemble of brand ambassadors admiring some of the most celebrated attractions at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

The campaign stars high-profile actors Jennifer Lawrence, Greta Lee, Taylor Russell, and Drew Starkey, who are photographed engaging with the museum’s cultural treasures. The project reinforces the French luxury house’s historic ties to the art world, blending cinematic staging with museum-grade masterpieces in a way that feels both contemporary and deeply rooted in heritage.

Creative director Jonathan Anderson originally presented the collection back in May against the striking architectural backdrop of the museum’s new wing, which was designed by the acclaimed Pritzker Prize-winning Swiss architect Peter Zumthor. The striking structural environment of the LACMA expansion provided a fitting modern canvas for Anderson’s vision for the cruise collection, balancing architectural rigor with the fluid, expressive nature of the garments.

For the accompanying campaign, the four Dior brand ambassadors were captured by photographer Sam Rock. In a conceptual twist, Rock directed the actors to essentially "play" themselves as they wandered through the museum’s sunlit and gallery-lit halls. The resulting imagery shows the quartet contemplating and interacting with legendary works of art, including Claude Monet’s iconic “Water Lilies” and a sweeping landscape by Dutch master Jacob van Ruisdael.

Accessories are featured prominently throughout the campaign images, anchoring the artistic narrative in tangible luxury goods. Taylor Russell is captured touting the distinctive, triangular-shaped Dior Initials Hobo bag, an accessory that introduces a sharp architectural geometry to the soft lines of her attire. Meanwhile, Greta Lee carries a sophisticated, two-handled satchel known as the Dior Double, which has quickly emerged as a staple silhouette for the house under Anderson’s creative direction.

Drew Starkey cuts a distinct figure in the campaign, wearing the oversize Dior Double-Up Messenger bag alongside a casual plaid shirt. Notably, the shirt is part of the brand’s special collaboration with American artist Ed Ruscha—the very same piece worn by Anderson himself when he took his traditional runway bow following his spring 2027 show in Paris.

The interplay between real life, artistic creation, and performance is a central theme of the campaign’s conceptual framework. "The campaign plays with the way images are mediated in contemporary culture. Are the actors acting for the camera, or not? Is that a shirt, or an artwork?" the brand noted in an official statement accompanying the release.

Since taking over the reins as creative director of Dior last year, Jonathan Anderson has consistently leaned into high-art dialogues, establishing collaborations with a diverse roster of contemporary artists, including textile visionary Sheila Hicks and ceramicist Magdalene Odundo.

His debut collection for the historic house was similarly framed by fine art, presented against the backdrop of two celebrated still-life paintings by 18th-century French painter Jean Siméon Chardin, which were secured on special loan from the Louvre museum in Paris.

At the time of that debut, Olivier Gabet, director of the decorative arts department at the Louvre, observed that the show’s artistic set design reflected the brand’s deep, foundational roots in the art world. Those roots trace directly back to founder Christian Dior’s early career as a gallerist and art dealer before he revolutionized post-war women’s fashion with the launch of his New Look.

Reflecting on Anderson’s artistic approach to luxury merchandising and runway presentation, Gabet noted during the Paris debut, "I think he is really going to put the focus back on the essence of luxury, and this is a perfect demonstration of that."

The full rollout of the Dior cruise campaign is scheduled to be released globally on October 22, timing its arrival to coincide with the official debut of the cruise collection in Dior boutiques and flagship stores worldwide.
