When Megan and Kyle set out to plan their summer celebration in Boulder, Colorado, their primary goal was as clear as the Rocky Mountain air: every single element had to feel deeply personal, effortlessly stylish, and authentically reflective of their lives together. Hosted against the stunning backdrop of The St. Julien Hotel, the couple curated a sophisticated yet intimate affair that seamlessly blended modern mid-century aesthetics with warm, family-centered traditions, local culinary excellence, and plenty of playful nods to their shared history, heritage, and beloved pets.
Food & Drink
True to the vibrant local culture, the couple’s culinary and beverage experiences were designed to make guests feel instantly immersed in the spirit of Colorado. Festivities kicked off during the cocktail hour with a playful trio of libations. Kyle opted for a traditional Transfusion, a crisp and refreshing mix of vodka, grape juice, and ginger ale. Megan chose a zesty, invigorating Spicy Margarita to set a lively tone for the evening.
However, the couple could not leave out their beloved cat, Lola. The feline family member was not only prominently featured on custom cocktail napkins throughout the bar area, but she also inspired her very own signature drink: a refreshing Hugo Spritz.
No Colorado wedding is complete without a farm-to-table inspired menu, and Megan and Kyle’s reception dinner delivered precisely that. The meticulously crafted four-course meal began with freshly baked bread prepared in-house, followed by a crisp salad course featuring locally sourced produce. For the main course, guests chose from a selection of tender steak, roasted chicken, or locally sourced salmon, ensuring that the authentic flavors of the region were well-represented on every plate. To round out the dining experience, the reception featured a specialty and long-standing tradition of The St. Julien Hotel: an impressive dessert tower dropped directly at each table for the final course, delighting guests as they shared sweets in a communal, celebratory atmosphere.
Florals & Decor
Snowberry Floral brought the couple’s vision to life, expertly designing the summer Boulder wedding to mirror a light and fresh palette infused with a distinct mid-century modern aesthetic. According to the design team, the objective was to lean into a bright, airy atmosphere while incorporating organic greenery, creamy whites, and just a subtle touch of yellow to warm up the space.
The floral arrangements featured a classic yet contemporary mix of summery blooms, including dahlias, hydrangeas, cosmos, chamomile, and garden roses. These traditional blossoms were accented with unexpected, textural elements such as hanging amaranth, foxglove, seasonal grasses, and delicate ferns. The resulting design achieved the couple’s desire for an effortless, fresh, and retro look, proving that the careful combination of traditional blooms and modern displays can powerfully elevate an entire venue’s aesthetic.
Wedding Cake
Continuing the day’s overarching theme of celebrating family and close relationships, the wedding cake was a completely homemade creation crafted by Kyle’s uncle, Michael. Megan affectionately refers to Michael as a "renaissance man," praising his boundless creativity and exceptional baking skills. The handcrafted dessert featured delicate white chocolate and raspberry flavors, elegantly finished with complementary floral decorations provided by Snowberry Floral.
In addition to the wedding cake, Michael prepared an assortment of beautiful, wedding-themed cookies and cupcakes designed to serve as favors for guests to take home at the end of the night. Both the couple and their attendees raved about the cake and treats throughout the evening. Reflecting on the collaborative family effort, the groom shared his admiration for the project. Having his uncle bake the wedding cake felt like an extraordinary way to include him, especially given their close bond. Remembering how Michael previously painted a mural in his childhood bedroom, the groom noted that having this stunning cake made for their wedding created yet another cherished memory to last a lifetime.
Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs
Family involvement extended directly into the heart of the ceremony itself. The groom’s brother-in-law—who is also one of the couple’s dearest friends—officiated the proceedings. Choosing a familiar, trusted loved one to lead the ceremony brought an immense sense of comfort and instantly helped ease any pre-wedding nerves.
Among the most memorable and touching moments of the service, noted the bride as one of her absolute favorites, occurred when the officiant paused to honor the couple’s grandparents who were unable to attend in person. Incorporating special excerpts and thoughts from them during the service deeply resonated with everyone present, meaning the world to both Megan and Kyle as they exchanged vows.
Special Details and Personal Touches
Beyond the aesthetics and culinary delights, the couple took deliberate steps to ensure every attendee felt deeply appreciated. Above all, Megan and Kyle wanted every single guest to recognize how much they meant to them. To achieve this, they incorporated thoughtful, highly personal touches throughout the entire day.
One standout detail involved leaving handwritten notes on the inside of each guest’s escort card. Megan and Kyle personally wrote individualized messages for their respective guests, expressing gratitude for everything those individuals had brought to their lives. Watching family members and friends open and read their personal notes during the dinner hour proved to be an exceptionally moving and special highlight for the newlyweds.
In a final, playful nod to Megan’s Swiss heritage, the couple placed small containers of Aromat—a staple seasoning from back home—at each reception table. This charming detail not only generated plenty of smiles and lighthearted laughs among the guests, but it also served as a meaningful way for Megan to share a tangible piece of her roots while celebrating the long-distance family members who had traveled long distances to be present for her wedding day.
