Pinterest Introduces AI-Powered "Restyle" Beta to Bridge the Gap Between Visual Inspiration and Home Decor Shopping

Pinterest is turning to artificial intelligence to help consumers move seamlessly from searching for product inspiration to actually being able to imagine what it might be like to redesign a space or compare home decor options as they would appear in their own rooms. On Thursday, the company announced the launch of a new consumer-facing feature called "Restyle" in beta across the United States and Canada, which is powered by Pinterest Intelligence.

The underlying foundation of Pinterest Intelligence combines advanced hardware and software architecture, bringing together Nvidia Blackwell GPUs and Nvidia Dynamo alongside sophisticated open-source models and Pinterest-built proprietary technology, as the company shared earlier in the week. This strategic partnership with Nvidia is designed to significantly improve the Pinterest Assistant’s ability to handle complex visual search requests, efficiently turn everyday user searches into actionable signals for AI-driven discovery and shopping, and elevate the overall user experience on the platform.

With the introduction of Restyle, users will be granted the practical ability to take a photo of their physical living space, then test, visualize, and compare different design options directly within their own homes. By prompting the AI, users can perform a variety of creative tasks, such as adding wall art, furniture, accessories, or other home decor elements. This includes pulling items directly from images they have previously found and saved on Pinterest, as well as experimenting with changes to ambient lighting, paint colors, indoor plants, and much more.

Furthermore, the capability extends to granular modifications within the room. Users can click on individual items already present in the room photo to swap them out for alternative pieces, completely erase them from the image, or make further continuous edits to refine the look. Alternatively, for those who are unsure where to start or are looking for a complete overhaul, they can ask the AI to visualize their room in a completely different aesthetic style. Options include trendy looks such as "bohemian," "industrial," "whimsical," or "dopamine," among other popular design movements.

Although the concept of digitally restyling rooms is not an entirely novel idea—as virtual interior design and room modification have become increasingly popular consumer use cases for various generative AI assistants across the tech industry—integrating the feature directly into Pinterest could fundamentally change how people interact with the platform. It allows everyday users to do far more with the items they have diligently saved over time for inspiration and architectural or interior design ideas. By enabling individuals to see specific items realistically placed within their own physical spaces, people may find themselves significantly more likely to purchase the physical items they have saved to their inspiration boards, effectively completing the commercial funnel from initial pinning to final purchase.

This innovative consumer feature was initially teased during Pinterest’s annual Pinterest Presents event, a major company showcase where executives also introduced a suite of new visual search ads, enhanced app promotion features, and a variety of other sophisticated tools specifically tailored for advertisers and brands looking to capture user interest.

As for availability, Restyle is initially rolling out only as an early preview beta for users in the U.S. and Canada, but the company plans to expand the rollout more broadly in the coming month.
