Breitling is expanding its core offerings with the addition of two flagship models to its mainline collection: the Navitimer B09 Chronograph 41 and the Navitimer B02 Chronograph 41 Cosmonaute. Previously, manual-wind versions of these historically significant timepieces were largely restricted to limited-edition runs, leaving many enthusiasts seeking access to these classic designs. By introducing them to the permanent catalog, Breitling is giving watch collectors broader access to the silhouettes that define the brand’s storied aviation heritage.
What We Know
The history of the Navitimer dates back to 1952, when Breitling originally released the watch as an essential tool for pilots who needed to perform advanced in-cockpit calculations using its signature circular slide rule. A decade later, the design was adapted for space flight, giving birth to the Cosmonaute. For many watch enthusiasts, these manual-wind iterations represent the absolute peak of authentic Breitling design.

Both new additions come housed in 41mm stainless steel cases featuring reverse-panda dials, bidirectional bezels, and the iconic circular slide rule. The Navitimer B09 is offered with either a black or blue dial, paired with a contrasting white rehaut and matching subdials. Meanwhile, the Cosmonaute features a black dial complemented by white subdials. Both models proudly incorporate the Twin Jet logo, originally introduced in 1957, rendered in gold to create a striking contrast against the monochromatic dials. To ensure high legibility in low-light conditions, the hands, numerals, and hour indexes are filled with Super-LumiNova.
Breitling has paid careful attention to the proportions of these new releases. By intentionally omitting the date window on the B09 and utilizing a slim manual-wind caliber, the brand has achieved a more refined case profile. Both watches measure 13mm in thickness with a 47mm lug-to-lug distance. Each features a cambered sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides, a screwed-in sapphire display caseback, a non-screw-down crown, and a water resistance rating of 30 meters.
Each timepiece draws from a distinct chapter of aviation and space history. The B09 takes its design cues from the 1960s Navitimer worn by legendary racing drivers Jim Clark and Graham Hill, who were also accomplished aviators. The Cosmonaute follows the specific watch Breitling engineered for Scott Carpenter’s Mercury-Atlas 7 mission. That historic model utilized a 24-hour display to help astronauts keep track of time beyond the normal earthly cycle of day and night. Carpenter wore his Cosmonaute into orbit on May 24, 1962, marking it as the first Swiss wristwatch in space.
Reflecting their historical roots, both watches are powered by manual-wind chronograph movements. The B09 utilizes the Breitling Manufacture Caliber B09, marking the first time this movement has entered the core collection. Prior to this release, the caliber was strictly reserved for limited editions and commemorative pieces, such as the Navitimer Tribute to Miles Davis launched at Geneva Watch Days. The Cosmonaute runs on the Breitling Manufacture Caliber B02, a specialized 24-hour chronograph movement exclusive to the Cosmonaute line. Both calibers measure 30mm across, operate at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, deliver a power reserve of approximately 70 hours, and hold official COSC chronometer certification.

Strap and bracelet options vary by model. The black dial B09 is paired with a hand-applied brown gradient calf-leather strap, while the blue dial B09 comes on a blue gradient calf-leather strap. Both leather options feature folding clasps equipped with release buttons. The Cosmonaute is available on either a hand-applied brown gradient calfskin strap with a folding clasp or a seven-row stainless steel bracelet featuring alternating satin and polished finishes. This seven-row steel bracelet is also available as an option for the B09.
Pricing for the Navitimer B09 Chronograph 41 is set at $7,900 when fitted with a leather strap and $8,400 when mounted on the steel bracelet. The Navitimer B02 Chronograph 41 Cosmonaute is priced at $10,600 on a strap and $11,000 on a bracelet.

What We Think
The current year has proven exceptionally active for Breitling as it oversees the foundational work of reviving historic marques and introducing a substantial number of new references across its broader family. While much of the collective focus within the wider group has naturally centered on those major revivals, this latest release demonstrates Breitling returning to its core identity. Delivering a thoughtful and well-timed product update toward the end of the calendar year is a welcome approach for enthusiasts.
Rather than attempting to reinvent a classic, these new additions focus on refining watches that collectors have long admired from afar. In the past, prospective buyers were frequently blocked from ownership because these configurations were tied to limited productions or quick sell-outs. By bringing these manual-wind icons into the permanent catalog, Breitling solves both availability issues in what stands out as one of its most practical and appealing rollouts of the year. With a straightforward selection of models, clean dial configurations, and versatile strap or bracelet choices, the brand has successfully relied on thoughtful engineering to update products that enthusiasts already care deeply about.
