When Megan and Kyle began planning their summer wedding in the heart of Boulder, Colorado, their primary goal was clear: they wanted an authentic celebration that honored their shared life, celebrated local culture, and made every single guest feel profoundly valued. Hosted against the breathtaking backdrop of the Rocky Mountain foothills at The St. Julien Hotel, the couple’s big day successfully blended sophisticated design, farm-to-table dining, and deeply personal touches that left a lasting impression on everyone in attendance.
From custom feline-inspired cocktails to hand-crafted desserts baked by family, Megan and Kyle’s wedding unfolded as a masterclass in how to infuse traditional elegance with heartfelt individuality.
Food & Drink
A standout feature of the cocktail hour was the couple’s playful take on standard drink menus. Moving beyond the traditional his-and-hers selections, Megan and Kyle opted for "his, hers, and their cat’s" signature cocktails. Kyle selected a traditional Transfusion, a refreshing and classic mix of vodka, grape juice, and ginger ale. Megan chose a zesty and vibrant Spicy Margarita to kick off the celebrations.
However, the undeniable star of the beverage menu was their beloved cat, Lola. Not only was Lola cleverly featured on the custom cocktail napkins, but she also inspired her own specialty drink, a crisp and effervescent Hugo Spritz.
No celebration in Colorado is truly complete without a nod to the state’s rich agricultural roots, and Megan and Kyle ensured their four-course dinner menu reflected a genuine farm-to-table ethos. The culinary experience was designed to make guests feel deeply immersed in Colorado culture. Dinner commenced with freshly baked bread made entirely in-house, followed by a crisp salad course featuring locally sourced seasonal produce. For the main course, guests enjoyed a choice of steak, chicken, or salmon, with all proteins responsibly sourced across the state. In keeping with a cherished tradition of The St. Julien Hotel, the final course featured a spectacular dessert tower dropped directly at each table, delighting guests as they concluded their meal.
Florals & Decor
To bring their aesthetic vision to life, the couple partnered with Snowberry Floral, who thoroughly enjoyed designing the summer affair in Boulder. According to the design team, they leaned heavily into a light and fresh color palette infused with a distinct mid-century modern vibe.
The resulting aesthetic was a harmonious blend of organic greenery, creamy whites, and deliberate touches of yellow. The arrangements featured a classic array of summery blooms, including dahlias, hydrangeas, cosmos, chamomile, and garden roses. To elevate the visual depth and create a dynamic texture, Snowberry Floral accented these traditional blossoms with hanging amaranth, foxglove, seasonal grasses, and delicate ferns.
Megan and Kyle explicitly sought an effortless, fresh, and retro look for their special day. The clever combination of traditional floral varieties and modern architectural displays ultimately achieved this, elevating the overall design and creating an inviting atmosphere throughout the venue.
Wedding Cake
Continuing the day’s overarching theme of keeping family closely involved, the wedding cake was a completely homemade labor of love crafted by Kyle’s uncle, Michael. Megan affectionately refers to Michael as a "renaissance man," praising his remarkable creativity and exceptional baking talents.
The homemade confection featured layers of delicate white chocolate and rich raspberry flavors, finished with bespoke floral decorations provided by Snowberry Floral. Beyond the main wedding cake, Michael also produced a stunning array of wedding-themed cookies and cupcakes designed to serve as sweet takeaway favors for guests at the end of the evening.
Both the couple and their attendees raved about the cake and accompanying desserts throughout the night. Reflecting on the sentiment behind the dessert, the groom shared his admiration for his uncle’s lifelong creativity. Having Michael bake the cake brought a powerful personal dimension to the reception, evoking memories of Michael painting a mural in Kyle’s childhood bedroom years prior and adding yet another cherished milestone to their family history.
Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs
Family bonds also took center stage during the wedding ceremony itself. The groom’s brother-in-law, who also happens to be one of the couple’s dearest friends, officiated the proceedings. Selecting someone so close to the couple brought an immense sense of comfort and instantly helped ease their pre-wedding nerves.
Among the bride’s favorite moments of the ceremony was a poignant gesture by the officiant, who took a deliberate pause to honor the couple’s grandparents who were unable to attend in person. By incorporating meaningful excerpts from them directly into the service, the moment resonated deeply, meaning the world to both Megan and Kyle.
Special Details and Personal Touches
Beyond the traditional elements of the itinerary, Megan and Kyle incorporated unique, thoughtful details designed to make their attendees feel extraordinarily special.
As the groom emphasized, their primary objective above all else was ensuring that every single guest knew how much they meant to the couple. To achieve this, Megan and Kyle spent time writing personalized handwritten notes on the inside of each guest’s escort card. Crafting individual messages for their respective guests to thank them for everything they brought to their lives proved to be a resounding success. Watching the room open and read their notes during the dinner hour became one of the most memorable and touching highlights of the evening for the newly married couple.
In a final playful nod to the bride’s background, the couple introduced a charming cultural element to the reception tables. Small containers of Aromat, a beloved staple seasoning from Switzerland, were placed at each table. This subtle detail not only generated plenty of smiles and lighthearted laughs among the guests, but it also served as a heartfelt tribute to Megan’s roots, bridging the distance for family members who had traveled long distances from abroad to celebrate the momentous occasion in Colorado.
