Gary Barlow steps out in London following candid admissions about the physical toll of Take That’s gruelling tour

Gary Barlow was spotted enjoying a relaxed afternoon in West London on Monday, stepping out for a casual catch-up just weeks after opening up about the intense age-related challenges he faced during Take That’s demanding recent concert run. The 55-year-old singer-songwriter was seen heading to the popular Dorian restaurant located in the affluent neighbourhood of Notting Hill, where he was joined by wine expert and prominent social media personality Tom Gilbey.

Keeping his look remarkably low-key and comfortable, the legendary pop star opted for a casual ensemble consisting of a simple black jumper, matching tracksuit bottoms, and a baseball cap, finished off with a pair of fresh white trainers. His dining companion, Tom Gilbey, went for a slightly sharper appearance, wearing a tailored navy suit as the pair made their way into the bustling neighbourhood eatery to enjoy a glass of wine and catch up away from the spotlight.

The London outing comes as Barlow continues to enjoy a period of well-deserved downtime following a whirlwind summer schedule. Earlier in the year, the musician admitted to feeling the strain of a brutal run of live shows as part of Take That’s celebrated return to the stage. After concluding the demanding tour schedule in Dublin back in July, Barlow took to social media to reflect on the emotional and physical reality of performing high-energy shows decades into his illustrious career.

The gruelling nature of the performances meant that the singer spent months preparing his body for the stage. In the lead-up to the tour, which kicked off in May, Barlow pulled out all the stops to ensure he was in peak physical condition. His preparation notably included a stint at the ultra-exclusive luxury wellness clinic Lanserhof at The Arts Club, a high-end establishment where annual memberships start at £6,500 alongside a £1,500 joining fee. Despite the rigorous preparation, the veteran performer confessed that the sheer intensity of the choreography and stamina required proved to be a completely different experience compared to performing the same shows in his thirties.

Following the conclusion of the live dates, Barlow retreated from the public eye for a restorative family holiday to Mexico. During his time away, the star stayed at the luxury One&Only Palmilla resort located in Los Cabos, treating fans to rare, shirtless snaps that showcased his toned physique following the grueling months on the road. Taking to Instagram from the sun-drenched retreat, Barlow shared his relief at finally escaping the intense routine of live performances.

Writing to his followers online, he expressed his gratitude for their patience during his brief social media hiatus, noting that he prefers to post only when he has something meaningful to share rather than producing content purely for the sake of it. He enthusiastically declared that he was fully out of the tour bubble and immediately pivoting his focus back to the studio, where he aims to complete and deliver Take That’s highly anticipated new studio album.

Reflecting on the creative process, Barlow acknowledged that the final stages of making an album can often feel daunting, as artists run the risk of overthinking and second-guessing every single musical choice. However, he reassured fans that the project was nearly complete, adding that strict deadlines can occasionally serve as a positive driving force. Beyond the studio work, the musician also hinted at major upcoming plans specifically tailored for the band’s loyal European fanbase, promising that big announcements are currently in the pipeline.

The renewed focus on fitness and health that sustained him through the tour has also remained a priority in his daily routine. Barlow noted that he is actively maintaining his post-tour fitness levels now that he finally has the free time to dedicate to physical wellness, alongside cherishing quiet moments with his family following their idyllic Mexican getaway.

The need for rest and recovery became a prominent theme of Barlow’s reflections when the live dates officially wrapped up. Following Take That’s final performance in the Irish capital alongside bandmates Howard Donald and Mark Owen, Barlow penned an emotional statement on X, formerly known as Twitter. While he proudly hailed the run as their absolute best tour in an incredible 35-year career, he candidly admitted that the passage of time had brought unique obstacles.

He explained to supporters that returning to the elaborate staging and energetic routines felt fundamentally different this time around. Having originally performed the landmark show when he was 38 years old, Barlow confessed that tackling the exact same physical demands at the age of 55 proved to be an entirely different challenge. With heartfelt resignation, he shared that he simply could not envision a scenario where his body would allow him to repeat the exact same show format in the future, marking a definitive chapter for the iconic production.
