The Horological Society of New York Takes Its Award-Winning Watchmaking Classes to Boston and Los Angeles

The Horological Society of New York (HSNY) is once again hitting the road, bringing its renowned, award-winning educational workshops to watch enthusiasts outside of New York City. The upcoming travel schedule features two major stops on opposite coasts this November, offering students a rare, hands-on opportunity to delve into the intricate mechanics of fine timepieces under the direct mentorship of professional horologists.

For the Boston leg of the tour, HSNY will be hosted by the historic fine jewelry and watch retailer Shreve, Crump & Low on November 7 and 8, 2026. Following the New England engagement, the society will head west to Los Angeles, where the classes will be hosted by prestigious independent watchmaker F.P.Journe on November 14, 2026. These traveling sessions are designed to replicate the comprehensive curriculum traditionally offered at HSNY’s headquarters, packing essential horological education into intensive weekend formats.

At HSNY’s traveling education classes, participants are given the unique chance to discover what truly makes a mechanical watch tick. Under the expert guidance of the society’s professional watchmaking staff, students dive right into the heart of horology by working directly on a mechanical watch movement. The curriculum takes participants through the fundamental components of timekeeping, allowing them to closely study and interact with the gear train, winding and setting mechanisms, and the critical escapement.

The weekend half-day classes are carefully structured to cover everything that is typically taught during individual evening classes held in New York. This format allows hobbyists, collectors, and curious novices alike to gain a comprehensive understanding and appreciation of watch mechanics in an immersive, collaborative environment without needing to commute to Manhattan.

The Horological Society of New York has a long and storied history of promoting the art and science of watchmaking, and its traveling education initiative has continually expanded its reach to serve enthusiastic communities across the United States. By partnering with esteemed local institutions like Shreve, Crump & Low and F.P.Journe, HSNY continues to foster a deeper connection between the public and the craftsmanship behind luxury horology.

Enrollment for the upcoming Boston and Los Angeles classes is now officially open through the society’s ticketing platforms, and prospective students are encouraged to secure their spots early given the high demand and limited capacity of these intimate, hands-on workshops.
