NEW ORLEANS — When medical school sweethearts decide to tie the knot, the celebration often reflects the dedication, joy, and resilience that carried them through years of demanding studies. For Felix and his bride, who first crossed paths on a crowded dance floor at their medical school’s annual Med Gala, the journey to the altar culminated in a breathtaking spring celebration that felt straight out of a classic 1990s or early 2000s romantic comedy. Expertly planned by Amanda Price Events, the couple’s special day unfolded at the Arbor Room in New Orleans City Park, blending timeless elegance with a fun, party-focused atmosphere that left guests enchanted from start to finish.
The couple’s vision began to crystallize once they secured their dream venue. Drawn to the natural beauty of the Arbor Room, they decided to build a romantic, understated aesthetic around the location’s picturesque fountain and surrounding gardens. Rather than getting bogged down by an overly rigid design scheme, the pair focused their energy on cultivating an atmosphere centered on celebration and shared joy. Every detail, from the decor to the entertainment, was thoughtfully curated to ensure a memorable experience for everyone in attendance.
The road to the altar began two and a half years after their fateful meeting at the Med Gala. The couple had planned to spend a rare Saturday together when both of their busy schedules finally aligned. Felix suggested a casual picnic—one of their favorite dating traditions—though his bride-to-be grew slightly suspicious when he asked her to wear a nice dress and drive an hour out of the way for the outing. Mother Nature decided to add a dramatic twist to the afternoon when dark, ominous clouds gathered overhead, erupting into a torrential downpour just as they reached their intended destination.
Faced with the unexpected weather, the couple pivoted gracefully. They parked along their favorite walking route in New Orleans City Park. There, amidst the soothing sound of rain pattering against the car windows and a favorite Hozier song playing softly in the background, Felix asked her to spend the rest of her life with him. Miraculously, the rain cleared up immediately afterward. To complete the surprise, Felix revealed a spread of their favorite picnic foods, joined by an enthusiastic gathering of her parents, both of their siblings, and their beloved dog, Gus.
When it came to the wedding fashion, the bride opted for a look that balanced modern elegance with classic romance. Knowing that the upcoming New Orleans Mardi Gras Ball season would provide plenty of opportunities to experiment with different silhouettes, she immediately set her sights on a timeless A-line gown. She also knew she wanted a dramatic train and a cathedral-length veil to complete her walk down the aisle. Her search led her to Anthropologie Weddings in Houston, where she discovered the "Charlotte" dress designed by Jenny Yoo. Featuring clean lines and simple sophistication, the gown fit seamlessly into the overarching rom-com aesthetic of the day.
The bridal party matched the classic elegance of the bride, with each bridesmaid selecting her own gown from Shona Joy’s satin "Midnight Navy" collection. By empowering her friends to choose a silhouette that made them feel most confident and beautiful, the bride ensured a cohesive yet personalized look. The rich navy hue added a sophisticated touch to the spring celebration, serving as a versatile staple color that the bridal party could easily appreciate long after the wedding day concluded.
The spring ceremony itself was carried along by the melodic sounds of a string quartet from New Orleans Classical & Jazz. Selecting the music proved to be a collaborative and thoughtful process, involving many dinner table discussions in the weeks leading up to the event. To help her husband completely envision the moments, the bride scoured YouTube for string quartet renditions of their favorite tracks. Among the most memorable musical highlights was the bridesmaids’ processional, set to "The Four Seasons: Spring 1" by Vivaldi. Walking arm-in-arm with her father while listening to the energetic, uplifting piece just minutes before walking down the aisle remains an unforgettable memory for the bride. Every moment of the ceremony was captured by Cheryl Cole Photography, a member of the exclusive Little Black Book.
Following the ceremony, guests transitioned to a reception designed to maximize time on the dance floor. The venue’s onsite catering and bar services streamlined the evening, offering an array of small bites and hors d’oeuvres that included crab cakes, grilled tuna, and stuffed artichoke hearts. Rather than a formal seated meal, the couple chose a buffet-style dinner, a practical and popular choice that allowed guests to eat at their leisure and return quickly to the celebration.
The floral design played a crucial role in enhancing the venue’s natural charm. Working alongside Annmarie from Hummingbird Floral Studio, the bride translated her Pinterest inspiration into reality by selecting a neutral color palette. These understated blooms blended seamlessly into the existing greenery and gardens surrounding the fountain. Inside the reception space, the floral team introduced creative touches, such as incorporating elegant candelabras onto the guest book table and the cake stand to add depth and visual dimension to the room. Additional rentals from Distressed Rentals and True Value Rental helped establish comfortable guest seating areas, a dedicated bandstand, and even bubble machines to orchestrate a joyful exit for the newlyweds.
The wedding cake paid homage to a beloved local tradition. The couple selected a classic New Orleans creation from Swiss Confectionery: an almond cake with rich vanilla buttercream and a tart raspberry filling, finished with classic vintage piping that tied back into the day’s romantic theme.
As the evening progressed and guests danced the night away, the couple offered a final sweet surprise. Embracing another local favorite, they treated attendees to artisan ice cream sandwiches from Lucy Boone. The shop curated a custom selection of eight different flavor combinations, pairing house-made cookies with small-batch ice creams like double-chocolate cookie cold brew, funfetti, and classic chocolate chip vanilla. It served as a delightful and comforting late-night snack, capping off a celebration that successfully captured the magic, warmth, and timeless romance of a classic cinematic love story.
