Abbey Clancy and Peter Crouch reveal plans for ‘a dry half-term’ as they vow to cut back on alcohol to set an example for their children

However, fully aware of their own past indulgences and a shared fondness for a glass of wine, the pair immediately joked that neither of them would realistically be able to complete the challenge. To add a competitive edge to their temporary sobriety, Abbey and Peter decided to place a wager on who would cave in first. The forfeit for the loser involves making a generous financial donation to the model’s favourite animal rescue charity, though both confessed they held very little hope of actually making it through the entire school holiday without giving in to temptation.

The couple share four children: Sophia Ruby, 17, Liberty Rose, 11, Johnny, eight, and Jack, seven. The decision to curb their alcohol intake stems partly from a desire to clean up their routines as they get older, as well as wanting to create a healthier environment at home for their growing family. Discussing the lifestyle change on their podcast, Abbey, 40, initiated the topic by saying, "We’re doing a dry half term as well so we’ll see how long that lasts," to which Peter, 45, responded, "Good luck with that, but we’ll try."

Recognizing the uphill battle ahead, former England footballer Peter suggested turning the abstention into a friendly bet. "I’ll be honest with you, I’m not very hopeful, do you actually wanna try and do that?" he asked.

Abbey enthusiastically agreed, committing to go completely dry for the duration of the half-term. Cementing the wager, Peter reached across to shake her hand, saying, "Will you try and do that with me? We’ll shake on it, and we’ll give some money to charity. One of us."

Reflecting on the broader benefits of a healthier lifestyle, Abbey noted how good she feels when maintaining a clean routine, recalling her time spent living in Portugal. "When I was living there in Portugal, I was up 5k walks every day with the dogs. Go in the gym. Beautiful fresh food. Just it’s just good for your body. Like, we’re getting older now. We need to," she explained.

Peter echoed her sentiments regarding family habits, pointing out the unintended consequences of evening drinks. "It will be better for the children as well, even that couple of glasses of wine at dinner, that mild headache in the mornings, there’s no need for it. I think you’d be better all round," he added.

The conversation naturally brought back memories of the Covid-19 pandemic lockdowns, a period during which millions of households altered their drinking habits. Abbey has previously been remarkably open about how the restrictions impacted her consumption levels, confessing that she and Peter indulged so heavily during lockdown that she felt she had "aged about ten years." Speaking previously during an online Q&A session, she remarked on the toll the period took on her, noting that there had simply been "far too much alcohol consumed" while confined at home.

Their playful relationship with alcohol was also on full display as recently as August, when Abbey and Peter filmed a hilarious episode of their podcast dedicated to a wine tasting session. By the time the cameras stopped rolling, the couple openly confessed to being completely "trollied," highlighting just how difficult a complete break from alcohol might prove for them both.

The timing of their dry half-term pledge coincides with significant professional developments for the couple, most notably the upcoming release of a brand-new, highly anticipated documentary series titled The Crouches, which is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video. The ambitious show is set to provide viewers with an unfiltered look into the family’s daily chaos, chronicling everything from big birthdays and weddings to the poignant milestone of their older children starting to fly the nest. Furthermore, it will capture a major life transition as they navigate a massive house renovation after leaving their bespoke £3 million home.

Having designed their previous family home entirely from scratch—notable for its custom 8-ft tall doors specifically built to accommodate Peter’s statuesque frame—the couple has already accepted an offer on the property, making an impending move a pressing reality. However, the documentary promises a "warts and all" perspective that captures the inevitable friction of domestic life, with the pair even joking that the series will easily rival The Kardashians in terms of drama and entertainment value.

In the docuseries, viewers will see Abbey dive headfirst into the immense stress of the renovation project while Peter prepares to jet off to the World Cup. This leaves Abbey holding the fort, tasked with the monumental challenge of juggling the four children, the family pets, and an active building site all at once. Having recently celebrated her 40th birthday, Abbey has expressed a renewed focus on reshaping the dynamics within the family. Having previously made significant personal sacrifices to support Peter’s illustrious football career, she is now firmly prioritizing her own goals and ambitions—leaving the documentary to explore whether her husband will happily play ball.

Speaking enthusiastically about the upcoming television project, Peter shared his thoughts on what audiences can expect when the series drops in 2027. "We’re so excited about our new series with Prime Video. I absolutely loved making That Peter Crouch Film, so much so that this time I’ve somehow managed to drag Abbey and the whole family into it!" he said.

Acknowledging the vulnerability required to open up their private lives to the public, Peter added, "It’s a bit scary as it’s warts and all, but I’m sure you enjoy laughing with us (probably at us). There will be a lot of chaos and probably a few moments we’ll regret letting the cameras see, some ups and some downs, but it will be us. Our life should be lovely, calm and simple… it is not. Watch out Kardashians we are coming for you."

As the family prepares for the chaos of house moves, television cameras, and upcoming football tournaments, Abbey and Peter’s immediate priority remains surviving their ambitious dry half-term bet—and waiting to see which of them will be the first to reach for the charity donation box.
