Lululemon is welcoming back familiar leadership to its boardroom, announcing that former product chief Tara Poseley has officially joined the company as a member of its board of directors. Poseley, who previously served as the athletic apparel retailer’s chief product officer from 2013 to 2015, took her seat on the board on Monday, according to an official corporate press release from the company.
Her appointment marks a significant milestone in Lululemon’s ongoing corporate evolution and directly fulfills a key provision outlined in the brand’s settlement agreement with its outspoken founder, Chip Wilson. Earlier this year, Lululemon and Wilson reached an accord that brought a close to a lengthy, highly public battle regarding the strategic direction and leadership of the booming athleticwear empire.

The cooperation agreement successfully paved the way for Wilson to introduce two preferred candidates to the board—former ESPN Chief Marketing Officer Laura Gentile and former On co-CEO Marc Maurer. Furthermore, the settlement terms mandated that Lululemon had to identify and officially appoint an independent director who possesses specialized, hands-on expertise in apparel product development and global brand strategy by no later than October 1. With the arrival of Poseley, the company has successfully satisfied that requirement.
Poseley steps into her new governance role equipped with more than three decades of valuable retail and consumer industry experience. Beyond her foundational tenure at Lululemon during a period of considerable brand expansion in the mid-2010s, her impressive professional resume includes executive leadership positions at retail mainstays such as Kmart and Gap Inc. Most recently, Poseley served as the chief executive officer of Paula’s Choice Skincare, further broadening her enterprise-level leadership credentials across the broader beauty and wellness landscape.
The return of the veteran product executive has drawn enthusiastic remarks from both company leadership and its founder. Chip Wilson expressed strong support for the appointment, highlighting Poseley’s deep familiarity with the brand’s unique market positioning. “Tara brings deep product expertise and understands what makes Lululemon special,” Wilson said in a statement.

Lululemon Chief Executive Officer Heidi O’Neill echoed those sentiments, emphasizing that Poseley’s re-engagement with the organization will substantially reinforce the brand’s product innovation capabilities and sharpen its overarching brand strategy moving forward.
“Her insights and guidance will be invaluable as we put product, design, and innovation at the center of how we operate to deliver on the company’s next chapter of success,” O’Neill noted in her official statement.
The addition of Poseley to the board comes at a pivotal operational juncture for Lululemon. O’Neill, who stepped into the chief executive role a little over a month ago, has moved quickly to reshape the executive leadership ecosystem at the corporate headquarters. In her initial weeks at the helm, O’Neill executed a sweeping overhaul of the retailer’s C-suite executive team. As part of this reorganization, Athleta CEO Maggie Gauger was tapped to take over the crucial product portfolio, stepping into a massive oversight role that officially commenced on Monday. Under her expanded mandate, Gauger manages all aspects of global merchandising, design, and product innovation.

According to retail analysts and company announcements, this structural realignment is fundamentally aimed at reprioritizing design at the very core of Lululemon’s business model. However, industry observers have also closely monitored the transition, noting that several other critical creative positions—most notably the role of the creative director—remain unchanged as the company implements its broader operational strategy.
By integrating Poseley’s seasoned product perspective at the board level alongside O’Neill and Gauger’s executive initiatives, Lululemon is signaling a renewed commitment to its product-first heritage. As the brand navigates its next phase of growth and competitive challenges within the global athleisure marketplace, the reunited leadership team aims to steer the company back to the core design principles that initially propelled it to industry dominance.
